Kate Hill – I came to Europe to buy a barge, found a 100-year-old Dutch Tjalk, named her the Julia Hoyt, and for nearly 20 years have been playing hooky on Europe’s inland waterways. Needing a place to get water, electricity and plant a garden, I bought an abandoned farmhouse on the Canal de Garonne, Camont, where I now teach and write about the good cooking of Southwest France.
