The Hungry Blogher

I just got back from attending the Blogher conference in San Jose and was lucky enough to spend a good portion of day two with some of my favorite local food bloggers including Shuna at Eggbeater, Chez Pim, and Gastronomie SF. I would have loved to have chatted with Chockylit and Meg Hourihan too, along with many others, but everything just seemed to fly by as I spent most of my time helping out on the podcasting crew.

I’m pretty sure I came home with several hundred new Internet friends (more stories and links coming soon).

While the sad hotel buffets are better left un-blogged about, the experience was food for my soul….one big room filled with hundreds of friendly women talking about the Internet and clicking away on their laptops made the web geek in me jump for joy.

Of course it’s got me rethinking how I present info on Kung Foodie. I’ve definitely gone in a direction that’s much different from other food bloggers by covering topics in a pop culture fashion instead of focusing on my personal cooking. Of course there is a reason for that! I’m really not that good of a cook and I certainly wouldn’t feel comfortable giving anyone kitchen advice (unless it was about ‘how to make a huge mess and laugh your ass off doing it’ by hosting a roll your own sushi pajama party). Throwing goofy parties…now that’s something I can do!

I’ve really been having a blast writing posts and cataloging my favorite food silliness, but I definitely want to make the site more community oriented so don’t be surprised if you start seeing some different topics. I will certainly do my best to keep the Kung Foodie style flowing tho.

[Update...]
Kalyn of Kalyn’s Kitchen did a great wrap up post listing all of the food bloggers that gathered inbetween Blogher sessions to chat. Elise also has a nice followup.

Hi Elise! Thanks for the link to Kayln’s post I’ve had barely a minute to look for Blogher reports and I still feel like my head is reeling from all the great conversations and introductions. I’m really looking forward to more Bay Area blogger meetups.

    Hey Kat:
Oh, don’t worry about writing about your own cooking if that’s not your thang. It’s more fun for me to read what turns you on.
In the year+ that I’ve been doing my blog, I’ve constantly thought and rethought my focus, and even though I’m still not sure what it should be, I know I’m 1) not a great cook, and 2) not a restaurant reviewer. I’m just mad, and I eat.
Glad to hear you had a good time at the conference. I hope (suspect) I will be at a Bay Area meetup with you one of these days.

Hey Kat – it was SUCH a pleasure to meet you. You are a cool chick, and nice to boot.

Hope your head is feeling 100% better; we did miss you at dinner.

    Hi BlogHer Roomie!

I LOVE that you present your blog in a pop culture way. It makes me happy beyond words. I was so lucky to have the coolest roomie at BlogHer this year. I may have been the icing on the cake, but you were definitely the sushi on the rice, and really, what is rice without the sushi-goodness that sits atop it?
Anyway, I had a great time meeting you and some of the other food bloggers. I hope we have our own food panel next year.
Keep up all your great work!

    Stacie
